ABSTRACT: Medicinal plants are considered valuable raw materials for the manufacture of numerous traditional and modern remedies. Therefore, this article aims to identify the main gaps identified by the literature in the supply chain of the herbal medicine market, through a systematic literature review using the Methodi Ordinatio protocol. 36 articles were delimited to compose this portfolio. It was possible to observe the strong presence of countries like China and India in the commercialization of these raw materials to different countries of the world. Many studies point to the need to work on the quality of these products, since low-quality and risky material was found for consumers of herbal medicines. Regarding the links in the production chain, it was possible to observe that most of the raw materials are cultivated by family farmers and small farmers, however they are the ones who least participate in the results, as they do not have bargaining power in the face of the large presence of intermediaries in the chain of herbal medicines. The research gaps revealed by the literature point out to greater efforts in guaranteeing the quality and safety of products, and in the virtuous insertion of family farming in this market. Amazonian rainforests, once thought to be pristine wilderness, are increasingly known to have been widely inhabited, modified, and managed prior to European arrival, by human populations with diverse cultural backgrounds. Amazonian Dark Earths (ADEs) are fertile soils found throughout the Amazon Basin, created by pre-Columbian societies with sedentary habits. Much is known about the chemistry of these soils, yet their zoology has been neglected. Hence, we characterized soil fertility, macroinvertebrate communities, and their activity at nine archeological sites in three Amazonian regions in ADEs and adjacent reference soils under native forest (young and old) and agricultural systems. |
